If you are a fan of the highly popular CW hit, Gossip Girl you are probably aware that Ed Westwick has a secret love for tattoos. The Gossip Girl hottie admits that he loves tattoos and says that he foresees himself getting plenty more. However, Ed doesn't really have the normal tattoos. Ed's tattoo collection is mostly of song titles and something he saw off the wall in a public bathroom.

Below are a list of Ed's interesting tattoos:

1. He has "Heartbreak Hotel" tattooed on his chest because he is a huge Elvis fan.

2. He has "21 Grams"

3. "Love me two times" The song by the doors.

4. "I heart romance" on his forearm, which is the one that he saw in a bathroom stall and thought it was a good idea for a tattoo.

5. "You make me feel like the one" across his shoulder

Ed has several other meaningless tattoos on his body. He pretty much as the attitude that he will get anything tattooed on him and that he is pretty much game for anything. If he sees something he likes he'll get it permanently inked on him. Ed also say he is not quite done inking up his body. He admits that they are way too addictive to give up. He says, "They're addictive. Get one. You'll never look back. Live fast, die young. Be a good-looking corpse. Leave a good-looking tattoo.

Not too many people can pull off meaningless tattoos, so just be careful when picking out your tattoo design.

Kobe Bryant is the most popular and talented basketball player since Michael Jordan's retirement. Kobe was born in the U.S.A, however he spent his childhood in Italy, where his father played as a professional basketball player. He liked football and was a big fan of A.C. Milan.

Back in the U.S.A he started his career as a basketball player , was hired by the Los Angeles Lakers and won the NBA championship breaking several records. He is now considered to be on of the top ten players ever in the history of the NBA.

However, Kobe Bryant tattoos have nothing to do with his favourite sport. His tattoos are about his life and belief.

The story behind Kobe Bryant tattoos is quite interesting.

In summer 2003, in Eagle, Colorado, Kobe met Katelyn Faber, 19-years-old - the second most significant woman in his life.

Some times after that meeting Kobe Bryant was sued with sexual assault and arrested. He admitted the adulterous sexual encounter, but denied her raping allegation.

Nobody knows what really happened that night in Colorado, anyways they could find some kind of (economical) agreement that allowed Kobe to go on with his fantastic basketball career.

Much harder was finding an agreement with the first most significant woman in his life: his wife Vanessa. Someone talked about a 4 million dollars ring as apology for the "little incident in Colorado". What is for sure is that after the trouble in Colorado some tattoos appeared on Kobe's arm. The name Vanessa and a Crown to represent the primary importance of his wife, two angel wings and the inscription Psalm XVII to express his faith.

He also have his daughter's name Natalia Diamante tattooed on his left arm.

So remember, if you ever got caught cheating your wife, with a 4 million dollars ring and huge tattoos on your arms, you should be all right.

When one first thinks of the famous burlesque dancer, Dita Von Tesse, tattoos don't necessarily come to mind. But Dita has a little secret. She has one tattoo and it is very noticeable and out in the open. Almost no one until now knew it was a tattoo. The famous mole on her left cheek is actually not a mole at all, it is a tattoo. It seems that Dita didn't plan on getting this timeless birthmark tattooed on her face. She actually went into the tattoo parlor and asked for a star to be tattooed on her cheek instead. Thank goodness for the tattoo artist she spoke to because he talked her out of that regretful tattoo and suggested she get something a little more timeless and elegant. Thus her beauty mark, mole tattoo was born.

"You have to understand I was pretty eccentric. I was always drawing hearts and stars in that spot. I went in thinking I wanted a star there, but they wouldn't do it.

They were the voice of reason. They were so right."

Dita's beauty mark tattoo is not the only tattoo she thought about getting when she was younger. She had her heart set on getting seams tattooed on the back of her legs, to show the illusion she was wearing stockings all the time. But she came to her senses and decided against it.

"In the early nineties I almost got seams (tattooed) up the back of my legs but I'm so glad I didn't. Can you imagine how hard it would be to match up the seams with real stockings? It would have been a nightmare.

At that time I was researching everything about the forties, about how during World War II women would draw seams on. I thought, 'Wouldn't that be cool?' I had them henna tattooed on, but I never went all the way."

Sure, tattoos can be an impulse decision-but we're all capable of getting them and even more likely to grow tired of them afterward. So what's the best choice to solve this problem? Well, celebrities are going the route of having their tattoos removed in a number of different ways. Many who can afford the expensive and painful laser tattoo removal are opting for that time consuming procedure, while others are trying natural creams or remedies to get the "toxic" ink out of their skin. More and more, we are seeing celebrities getting tattoos erased. Why is this happening?

Even in the movie world, being a celebrity isn't enough to make tattoos acceptable for certain job opportunities. A great example is the rapper 50 Cent who recently began having his tattoos erased in order to get more opportunities for film roles. That's right, a famous rapper who arguably made part of his brand and image from those same tattoos and his gangster rap music is having them removed because they're limiting HIS job opportunities. This is a great example of how tattoos can limit anyone's opportunities.

Another great example of a celebrity wanting to have their tattoos erased is the rapper Pharrell, who is having his tattoos removed to gain more opportunities. For people with obvious tattoos, celebrity or not, getting them removed by using a topical cream or laser tattoo removal (laser removal is more painful and ridiculously more expensive) is the best route to go. It can give you more opportunities, better ability to get a job offer, and can help with first impressions in social situations.

If you want to get your tattoo removed like so many celebrities are already doing, then make your move! Look into different tattoo removal creams or other remedies for lightening and removing tattoos from your skin. Tattoo removal is becoming more popular as people come to terms with the results of their tattoo, so the number of options for removal is always increasing as the market grows.

Today in this modern age there are many popular famous celebrity's that have taken up tattoos as a way of expression. From Axl Rose to 50 Cent, AC/DC and many others have chosen this as an art form. Looking at all of them, We see many well done tattoos that we may like to have for ourselves. Or at least to the point of artwork that may be similar. We can get some of our own ideas when we see these well designed pieces of skin art. We also have to look at the fact that many of them were obtained at a very high price.

But with a little luck we can get something unique just like they did. Remember most famous people who are in the public's eye have to have something that others do not have. In that case so should you, No matter how much you like what someone else has. It should be done in a different inconspicuous way.

If everyone had the same Tattoo, We would all be the same which isn't good.

When we look into getting tatted we should also have our own designs that will set us apart from everyone else. Take the initiative to be different, Make your designs say who you are and what you like.

Also, If this is your first Tattoo remember there may be some pain involved. But when you see the beautiful design that you took care in making. It will all be worth it in the long run. Like the old saying "No pain, No gain". The only thing that now will limit you is your own imagination.

Rumer Willis is not really a celebrity herself even though she has been appearing in some movies here and there. But the daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis seems to have a love for tattoos. The 20 year old as at least 4 tattoos. At first glance you would never imagine that Rumer has tattoos. This is the beauty of tattoos, people you least would except to have one usually have more than one.

Here's a list of Rumer's tattoos:

1. She has a blue little bird on her right shoulder blade

2. Some sort of symbol in black ink on her right wrist

3. A little black rosary on her left ring finger

4. "Be Present" written in a fancy writing going down the left side of her rib cage.

It seems that Bruce nor Demi have not expressed any disliking to their daughters tattoo collection and it might be a good thing because there is a high possibility that young Rumer will add another tattoo to her collection one of these days. Rumer is also a great example of having multiple tattoos and not being perceived as trashy. Yes you can't appease everyone when it comes to tattoos, but tattoo placement is key when deciding to get a tattoo. After all if you were to first look at Rumer you probably wouldn't notice any of her tattoos unless you got up close to her. So if you are concerned about where to get your tattoo maybe you should consider some of the places where Rumer has hers. Please note that the tattoo on her rib cage is highly painful so think long and hard before you decide to get a tattoo there. Also if you are dead set on getting a tattoo there be prepared to only be able to take the pain of getting that tattoo for only a few minutes at a time. Don't for a minute think you are a pansy if this happens, tattoo artist are used to this, because this is a highly painful area to get tattooed.

It is a safe to assume that since nearly half of the population in the United States has a tattoo that the next generation of kids will more than likely help make the percentage of tattoos go up. After all if you are a parent and you have a tattoo it would be very hypocritical for you to tell your children they couldn't get a tattoo. However, if you have regrets about your tattoo, this would be a perfect time to help educate your children about tattoos. By doing so it will more than likely help prevent your child from making the same mistake that you did. It is definitely nothing new for celebrity moms to bare tattoos, just as it's nothing new for regular moms to bare tattoos.

Below is a list of some popular celebrity moms that bare tattoos and are not ashamed of them.

1. Angelina Jolie-has more tattoos than she does children and is very open about them and her love for them.

8. Kelly Ripa-the girl next door that everyone loves has a heart tattoo on her ankle.

10. Julia Roberts-the pretty woman herself has all three of her children names tattooed on her lower back.

There's no doubt that young celebrity obsession with tattoos has helped to fuel the incredible growth in the industry over the last 10 years. Suddenly it became ok to express oneself in a whole new way, and the trend does not seem to be showing signs of diminishing anytime soon. Here are the top 3 female celebrity tattoos that helped the art go mainstream.

1. Angelina Jolie: Long before she met Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie was using her sinewy left arm to signal her love for her then-inamorata Billy Bob Thornton. Along with his name, she included a dragon for good measure. That a main stream actress would be comfortable tattooing herself made it ok for anyone to do it. Since then, she has moved on to other interests: thank goodness for tattoo removal! In that same spot she is currently sporting the coordinates for the birth places of her children. No doubt about it: Angelina started it all!

2. Melanie Griffith: Though she has not been an A-list actress for many years, Melanie Griffith attracted the public's attention by being the first middle-aged female celebrity to get a brand new tattoo. Like many of her contemporaries, she chose to express her love for her husband Antonio Banderas with a design that included his name set in a retro-shaped heart. Miss Griffith showed that tattoos were not just for the very young.

3. Eve: This rap goddess has long sported a feline paw print on each of her breasts. They are not "in your face" tattoos: rather, they have an airy, wispy look that is subtle and extremely feminine. The influence of Eve's choice is evident in the many who have since copied her trademark look.

If you are considering getting a new tattoo this year, be sure to have it done by a professional who insists on using the very best tattoo machines: the results will be well worth it.

People don't seem to understand that just because you are a good girl and don't party or do drugs doesn't mean you can't get a tattoo. There has been a negative stereotype on tattoos since day one when sailors, bikers, and criminals were the only ones to have them. However, times have changed, it is 2009 after all. Tattoos have come a long way since the dawn of time. Because tattoos have become so mainstream it's not uncommon for a goody goody if you will to have one or more tattoos. Tattoos are a form of self expression and people should stop looking at them as a bad thing.

Well Disney star Ashley Tisdale is the latest Disney star to go out and get a tattoo. It is not known when Ashley got her tattoo, but she was seen coming out of Shamrock Tattoos last Sunday. Also no one is exactly sure her tattoo is of. Ashley hasn't come right out and admitted she has one or showed it off all the way. However, Ashley was caught wearing a tank top not too long ago exposing a portion of her tattoo. All that could be seen was Bel written in black ink on her back. Some believe that it says "Bella" while others think it might say "believe" either way it is certain that Miss Tisdale is no longer a tattoo virgin.

So does this mean some parents will no longer let their children listen to her music or watch shows she is in? This just goes to show that just because someone has a tattoo doesn't mean they are a bad person. Ashley has lead a pretty quiet life and she isn't seen out partying doing drugs or doing wild and crazy things. So parents should still let their children look up to her.

The Poker Face singer is probably best known for her outlandish outfits and crazy hair and fun dance songs. But Lady Gaga real name, Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. But do not dare call her that, she only responds to Lady Gaga or Gaga. Well Lady Gaga is also no stranger to the tattoo gun. Lady Gaga has a total of three tattoos.

The one tattoo that most everyone has seen is the black peace symbol located on her left wrist. If you look at it, it looks upside down but from Lady Gaga's view it is right side up. She says she got this tattoo because of John Lennon. She is a huge John Lennon and Beatles fan and she grew up two miles from the imagine memorial. She she got the tattoo to help reminder her about the important things in life, like give peace a chance.

She also has a tattoo on her left should blade. This tattoo is of a Hawaiian flower. Her last tattoo is on her lower back and on her side. Gaga says that she got her first tattoo when she was 17 and got a fake id so she could do so. Of course her parents were not too happy. Well Gaga obviously regrets the tattoo design she got because she has gotten it covered up. She has three very large white roses on her side with some black vines and another set of the same roses on her lower back with some black vines that Kat Von D of LA Ink did for her.

One of the most popular Viking tattoo designs is meant to represent an actual Viking warrior. If you are to get a Norse tattoo, you would probably want to have an image of something real, historically accurate. Then reject all the designs that represent Norsemen wearing helmets with horns. Such a presentation of a Scandinavian helm grew popular as late as in the 19th century. The only extant authentic helmet that dates back to the Viking Age was found in Gjermundby, Norway, and it has no horns. Norse warriors were very practical people and their weapons' designs were usually rather simple. They valued usability, not spectacular effects. It is true that there are a few Viking Age images representing ceremonial helmets with two protrusions ending with birds' or snakes' heads, but they look altogether different and were not used in battles.

The same applies to wings. Helmets with wings are not historic. Vikings did not use them. A rather popular tattoo design is valkyrie wings based on the Max Payne movie. In that movie people see valkyries as male demonic creatures with wings. The fact is that in Norse mythology valkyries are female deities with no wings. They were pictured as serving drinking horns to warriors coming to Valhalla, a place where brave people came after their death.

The other thing to avoid in authentic Viking tattoo designs is the massive double axe. The axes used by Norsemen were rather light and used single-handed. In the period of transition from the Viking Age to Middle Ages, Scandinavians also used the so-called Dane axe, which was indeed large, but it was not double. No double-headed axe has been found from early medieval Europe.

A Norse inscription is perhaps the best way to make your Viking tattoo design truly unique. However, getting a correct inscription is a real challenge. I would advise to proceed as follows:

  • Decide whether you'd like to have an inscription in runes or letters
  • If you want it in runes, decide which runic system to use (there are several different runic alphabets)
  • If you still want it in runes, decide if it will be in Old Norse or just English words in runes
In my opinion, a cool Norse inscription does not have to be necessarily in runes. After all, the Icelandic sagas, our main source of information on Vikings, were not written down in runes. A quotation from a saga in the original Old Norse would certainly make a very cool Viking tattoo design.

If you want the inscription in runes and you've got the exact idea of what the inscription will be (you have the text in English or in Old Norse), then the next step is to decide which runes to use. The Elder Futhark was used by all Germanic tribes from the 2nd through the 8th centuries. The Younger Futhark started to develop at the end of the 8th century and was accepted in the whole of Scandinavia by the 10th century. It existed in two versions: Long Branch and Short Twig Younger Futhark. You may also want to use Anglo-Saxon runes. There existed even a secret variant of runes called staveless runes.

Among all NBA players, Chris Andersen is the one who can proudly show off the most amazing tattoos. In this article I will try to describe this singular and often underestimated basketball player and his wonderful tattoos.

During this 2008/2009 NBA Season, Chris Andersen, also known as "The Birdman" (name he earned for his flying ability on the court and a couple of wings tattooed on his arms), has once again proved to be one of the best center in the NBA.

Nevertheless, he is still better known for his crazy hair-style and his many tattoos than for his basketball skills. Due to his tattoos and his defensive ability, Andersen has often been likened to an old NBA Star, Dennis Rodman.

Born July 7 1978 in Long Beach, California, Chris Andersen spent only a few years of his childhood in his homeland. As a teenager, he grew up in Texas, Iola, and he ended up choosing the University of Huston for his higher education. It did not take him too much time to understand he was not made to study. Therefore he tried to find an easier way to get a qualification at the little Blinn College in Brenham, where he managed to earn a diploma in just two years.

Nobody seemed to believe in his potential, as he was not picked by any team in the 1999 NBA draft. Therefore The Birdman had to start his basketball career in China with the Jiangsu Nagang.
In 2002 he finally joined a real NBA Team, the New Orleans Hornets, where he played some years with fluctuating performances.

In 2006 Chris Birdman Andersen was found positive for drugs. He got a two-year suspension for violating the league's drug policy. His career looked over. There are moments in life in which being a good player is not enough. You need to be a Man. Andersen had to prove he was not just a flying bird anymore; he needed the strength of a man to overcome the difficult moment and fly back to the rim again.

Well he proved it; he became a man and came back to the NBA in 2008 with his old team New Orleans Hornets.

Following the 2007-08 NBA season, Andersen agreed to sign a one-year contract with the Nuggets, where he is still playing. Andersen is currently second in the league in blocks per game.

During the seasons 2003-04 and 2005-06, Andersen bought thousands of dollars in tickets that were distributed among several different charities throughout the years.

But let's have a look at Chris Andersen tattoos, or at least the ones we could get a look at:

- A skull tattoo with a crown on his left biceps;
- Chains are tattooed on both his arms and his upper chest;
- Homage to his home state of Texas is inked on his right forearm;
- The words "Honky Tonk" on his stomach;
- Coloured wings are inked under both his arms; those are the wings of the only real Birdman in the NBA: An indelible sign of his flying ability and his love for tattoos. Curiosity: Andersen once admitted to crying "like a little girl" while getting his wing tattoos on both his inner biceps.
- A snow crystal on his left elbow;
- A basketball player making a Slam-Dunk on his right arm.
- Japanese signs on both his arms.

These are just a few of Chris Andersen Tattoos. Many others are visible but not clearly recognizable in many pictures online. Andersen got most of his tattoos compliments of his friend, tattoo artist John Slaughter in Denver.

Hayden Panettiere may have come out of nowhere but the Hero's star has certainly started to make a name for herself in Hollywood. She is actively standing up for the rights of dolphins in Japan. She has been actively protesting the government over there and she was even got into some legal trouble over there because if it. Well the Hero's star didn't stop there, Hayden is also involved with several other charities that range from children to dogs to Whales. Hayden also sells her own clothes and gives the proceeds to charity. Now with all this good that this young star has done would you even think that she had some tattoos. This just goes to show that even good charity people that care deeply about animals and children can bare tattoos and not be a terrible, horrible, evil person.

Hayden is only at the ripe age of 19 but the Hero's star has two tattoos of her own. Many people including her mother didn't even know she had even gotten her first tattoo. Hayden's first tattoo is so small it is rather hard to see, literally if you blink you miss it. Hayden has the Leo symbol right under her ankle bone on her left foot. Hayden also has another tattoo that runs down the side of her right side. No one has been able to fully see what this tattoo says but the first two words are, Vivere Memento, which is Italian for Live the moment.

So if you are thinking about getting a tattoo and want it in a place that people will probably not notice. Follow Hayden's example and get something farily small right under your ankle bone.

The lead singer of Good Charlotte and boyfriend to Nicole Richie, Joel Madden has a quite large collection if tattoos. Nearly half of his body is covered in them. Because of this Joel was recently denied access to getting on an airplane in England because they were concerned his tattoos would offend other people. Shocked and confused by this request Joel complained with the airline and put a long sleeve shirt on to cover most of his tattoos. Being discriminated against because you have tattoos should be just the same as someone being discriminated against because of their race, age, sex or religion.

Below is a list of most of Joel's tattoos:

1. On both shoulders there is an outline of a star.

2. On the inside of his right hand he has the letters "A-M-C." This stands for "American Murder Crew." It is something that he, Benji, and their group of friends from D.C. all have.

3. On his chest right above his heart, he has praying hands with "Benjamin" and with "Saved By Grace" underneath

4. On his left wrist, there is an outline of a star and "Truth" underneath it

5. On the edge of his lower right arm, he has his last name, M-A-D-D-E-N.

6. On the back of his upper right arm, there is an Irish flag.

7. On his lower right arm, is the face of Jesus.

8. On his upper left arm, there is a cross with a banner around it and 2 doves flying around it. Under that, there's a rose.

9, On his lower left arm, is the face of the virgin Mary.

10. On his right wrist, there is an outline of a star with "Hope" underneath it.

11. On his right calf, there is a dragon.

12. On his left calf, there is a heart and a shooting star.

13. Also on his lower leg sleeve he has somewhat of a Chinese symbol for "Mom"

14. On his left forearm he has Joseph (foster father of Jesus) and the word "Salvation" on the front of his wrist.

When one think of the, I kissed a girl singer the last thing that comes to their mind is tattoos. This is the best thing about tattoos. People who you would never think to have one has one. This also just goes to show that the stereotype on tattoos couldn't be more wrong. It is usually those shy, good girls from next door that have a secret love for tattoos. With that being said, Katy Perry does have a tattoo of her own and it just so happens to be in a rather visible place.

Katy has a tattoo on her left wrist. Her tattoo is a text tattoo, that simply says Jesus in black ink. No word on why Katy decided to get this tattoo. But there you have it she does have one. There have also been some rumors that she has a lip tattoo on her back somewhere. However, Katy does not rule out the possibility of getting another tattoo. It seems that the hot and cold singer, has been hot and cold about getting a tattoo of Freddie Mercury on her back. Katy has once stated that she looks up the former front-man of Queen and completely idolizes him. She shared that she once almost got a huge tattoo of Freddie's face on her back, but says she decided against at the last minute. She says she is glad she didn't do it but on the flip side she still has an urge to get this tattoo on her back. So it is pretty safe to say that this pin up style singer will more than likely add to her tattoo collection one day.

Brian Austin Green has come a long way since his David Silver and 90210 days. Currently David is involved with the Sarah Conner Chronicles on Fox. David has had much success with this new show, which has quickly become a hit show and has quit the following. Even though Brian Austin Green has broken up with his longtime very hot girlfriend, Megan Fox there is still one thing that the two still have in common and share a love for, tattoos.

Below is a list of some of Brian Austin Green's tattoos:

1. Brian has an Aztec thunderbird design on right shoulder

2. A cross on his left shoulder

3. Under the cross on his left shoulder reads JOHN 3:16

4. A tattoo of Megan's name located somewhere on his body, which he is probably regretting right about now

5. He has his son's name Kassius tattooed on the inside of his left arm in some sort of old English writing.

6. A big dragon wrapped around his lower right forearm and his elbow.

7. Blue and white flames going up his left bicep.

Once again people take this as a lesson learned. Absolutely do not get a lover's names tattooed on you no matter what. It is literally the kiss of death. You may not break up the next day or week or even month, but some day down the line you will break up. It's like putting a cruse on your relationship not to work out. So beware of the lover's name tattoo. However, you can also take note from Brian and get your child's name tattooed on you, if you are dying to get someones name tattooed on you.

Breast cancer ribbon tattoos have become a very popular way to show your support for those who have fought a cancer battle. While there are many different types of ribbons supporting many different causes, the pink ribbon is one that has taken on international significance representing breast cancer awareness.

With one in eight women and men fighting the breast cancer battle this year alone there is a good chance that you will know someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. As a tattoo enthusiast, I love seeing people who have chosen to honor and support someone with a breast cancer ribbon tattoo.

If you are thinking about getting a breast cancer tattoo for yourself that honors someone who is fighting this particular battle or someone whose has fought this battle and ultimately lost ~ then here are some tattoo tips that you will want to keep in mind.

* Choosing the Right Breast Cancer Ribbon Tattoo Design.

Take your time choosing the perfect breast cancer tattoo. Not only do you want the tattoo to be the right one for you, but you'll want it to properly symbolize your love and support for your friend or loved one. Looking through online designs is a good place to start. Having a stencil in hand of your chosen artwork when you go to your favorite tattoo artist can also save you some time and money.

* Location, Location, Location

Just as in real estate, the location of your tattoo is important, especially with this type of tattoo. Display it in a prominent location. After all... you want the world to see this beautiful work of art that shows your love and support for those with breast cancer.

* If This is Your First Tattoo?

If this is your first tattoo then you must Think... Think... and Re-Think Before You Ink! Take your time choosing a design. Take your time choosing the right placement location.

Don't get a tattoo while under pressure from someone else. Hopefully, you will be living with this tattoo for the rest of your life so choose wisely from the start. You will want to be happy not only today but for all the tomorrows to come.

* Consultation Please!

It is a very good idea to make an appointment for a consultation with the artist. Actually, you should consult with several artists before making a final decision on just which artist will ink your tattoo. Take all your ideas, sketches and stenciled artwork with you to your appointment so together you and the artist can come up with the best custom tattoo design that is just right for you.

Getting a tattoo is somewhat of an intimate experience so you will want to be comfortable with the person who is going to be making art with you.

* Don't Shop for Price Alone!

Tattooing is an art form and great tattoos can be expensive. If you decide to go smaller in order to save money, you may regret it later. Sometimes waiting until you can afford to get the right tattoo will be worth it in the long run. Your tattoo should be unique and special to you so don't scrimp on it.

Deciding to get a breast cancer ribbon tattoo is commendable and offers a special tribute to your loved one or friend. Take your time choosing the best design and the right application location. Only then will it truly show honor and respect for those who fight the breast cancer battle.

Lower back tattoos are more common in women; however there are some men who prefer them also. The Soccer star David Beckham has a lower back tattoo if a name. Usually men do not get lower back tattoos because they are for women. Beckham's lower back tattoo of 'Brooklyn' has meaning and is not girly.

In most instances oblong shapes work best for this area, because they fit the space perfectly. Many choose to go with a design that goes across the entire lower back. However, it is also popular to go with a smaller tattoo on either side of the lower back.

The lower back is one areas of the body that is less likely to change as you age. Some people do not consider how their bodies will change as they age, but this is important to think about. You probably do not want to get a tattoo that looks great today, but scary when you turn sixty.

Another advantage of lower back tattoos is how easily they are covered. There may be some instances in which you want to keep your tattoo under wraps, and this type of tattoo is easy to hide. Just by having a shirt on will cover the entire tattoo.

Some common choices for the lower back include fairies, butterflies, and flowers or for men, words or letters.

If you are choosing a lower back tattoo as your first tattoo, you may wish to start with something small that can be added to in the future.

The upper back is also a common place for tattoos because of the large surface available. It lends itself well to very intricate and detailed designs. It is also easily expanded on. If you start with something small, there is room to expand it if you choose to do so in the future.

Upper back tattoos are found more commonly on men, although women do have them too. When choosing an upper back tattoo there are several places as well as designs to choose from. The shoulder blades are a popular place to have wings tattooed. Some like to have their guardian angel tattooed there. It is also popular for animals or creatures with wings.

Another option for the upper back is tribal tattoos. The amount of space on the upper back gives ample room for very detailed tribal designs.

There are a few things to consider when thinking about your back tattoo. The first would be placement and design. Tattoos are not necessarily forever, but the procedure to remove them is costly and time consuming. Make sure that you choose something you will be happy with.

The second thing to consider is cost. Large tattoos on the back can be very costly, so think about how much money you want to invest in your artwork.

Lastly consider how long it will take to actually get the tattoo. Many large tattoos have to be completed in more than one sitting. If you are just starting out with tattoos, you may want to have something small at first, and then add to it later on. Also there are places on the back that are more tender and painful, so having a large tattoo will mean that you will have to endure more pain for a longer period of time.

Getting a girl back tattoo involves deciding not only what design to choose, where to place it, but also how both of those elements combined can embrace ones own femaleness and personality. I'll focus here on the placement of a girl back tattoo.

Where to get a girl back tattoo? The most common placement for a girl back tattoo has been in the center lower back area, right above, or even in line with, the waist line. With low cut jeans being the latest fad, and tight tees that hike up above the belly button, the lower center area has been an ideal place to display your girl back tattoo.

Pro's of getting a "low-center" girl back tattoo:

-Displaying is ideal with todays clothing trend. The tattoo is both slightly subtle and yet very noticeable when one does see it. For instance many males have gotten "reverse forearm" tattoos in which their tattoo is placed on the underside of the forearm as opposed to the front, more noticeable area. This is both slightly subtle, as first glance you may not see it, but also its not hidden and very visible once one visually zero's in on it. A girl back tattoo placed in the low center area has the same advantages.

Con's of getting a "low-center" girl back tattoo:

-It's unoriginal. Unfortunately the ''lower center" girl back tattoo has been heavily played out. Many girls have followed the trend, and hence it has become more of a fad than an original idea for placement. Tattoos as a whole have become so common that it remains a struggle to find original angles to approach when it comes to both design and placement. Slang terms such as "tramp stamp" have begun to emerge for females donning a girl back tattoo in the low-center area. Some have said in 40 years that slang term will be replaced by "gramp stamp" playing on the notion that the plethora of elderly women who will still be donning the permanent girl back tattoo art in their later years. The popularity and common placement of lower center girl back tattoo lends itself to this type of slang creation.

-Another obvious disadvantage with a low center girl back tattoo is the fact that you are unable to visually see your tattoo, unless you look in a mirror. This is of course the case with all back tattoo's, and if one would like to view their body art frequently, without a mirror, they should consider placement elsewhere.

Possible alternatives:

-If one is absolutely dead set on the low center girl back tattoo, believes that area of permanent placement is right for them, and is content within themselves to rise above slang labels and such, then they should go for it. Other options could include a more unique lower back placement, such as off to one side, or even on the side of the body above the hips. This enables the individual to view their tattoo without the assistance of a mirror. Naturally five years from now a trend could emerge for side hip tattoos, but for now it remains a not very common placement area, and an alternative area for a typical girl back tattoo.

-Another option for the low center girl back tattoo, is to choose a design that is more mural-like, as opposed to a single object like a butterfly or rose. This somewhat lifts you out of the common trend of the single girl back tattoo placed low and center. And the potentiality exists for stretching the design across the back, instead of just centered in the middle.

Whatever you do choose as the placement for your girl back tattoo, it ultimately should be one you are able to be happy with both in the short term and the long term. No matter where you choose your placement area, a good, unique, design can make a huge difference and in any event it's always worth researching to find the right one for you. One that in your eyes would look good no matter where you decide to place it.

Choosing a back tattoo requires three important guidelines to remember:

1. A back tattoo must be a design which you are OK with not seeing often. Obviously you are placing it on an area which is not going to be visible to you, and when you do want to view it, you'll have to do so with the assistance of a mirror.

This is the major drawback of getting a back tattoo. Often times you will see very elaborate, beautiful back tattoo designs, and it seems odd that the tattoo wearer is the one who can't enjoy viewing it, as others can.

2. Pick a medium to large design for a back tattoo. The back is the one place on the body which is literally a large flat blank canvas. Getting a tiny shamrock or some other small back tattoo design seems almost like a waste of space. Often times people have the same regret after getting a back tattoo: I wish I had gotten it bigger! This is very common. So with a back tattoo, think bigger than you normally would.

3. The back is one of the ideal places for concealment. If you are concerned with concealing your ink, a back tattoo could definitely be for you. It solves many issues of workplace or public appearance, or simply the desire of having a private tattoo, not wanting to flaunt or display it openly.

Choosing a back tattoo can be either an ideal place for a tattoo, or a regrettable place if you're very attached to the artwork or the design you choose.
